Disability Equality Plan Launched
Today, the Scottish Government officially launched the Disability Equality Plan. This is a major milestone shaped by the voices of disabled people and Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs).
This Plan is the result of strong, collective campaigning through Disabled People Demand Justice, led by Disability Equality Scotland, Inclusion Scotland, and Glasgow Disability Alliance. It would not have happened without the support of disabled people and allies who joined the call for urgent action on poverty, discrimination, and exclusion.
In response, the Scottish Government committed £2.5 million in additional funding for Disabled People’s Organisations. The Plan sets out both immediate and long-term steps to:
- Increased access to welfare rights, advice, and support services
- Tackle digital exclusion
- Put lived experience at the heart of decisions
- Increase accountability and partnerships with DPOs
While this marks important progress, DPO leaders are clear, this must be the foundation for real, sustained change.

“Accountability matters. We want disabled people and our organisations to be leading scrutiny and shaping delivery. Good intentions aren’t enough.”
This Plan is only the beginning. Unless it’s backed by action and accountability, it won’t deliver for disabled people.
